Not negotiable. Unless your next family car comes with standard spare wheel and jack, you must add this option – a tyre repair kit is a major disadvantage. If you get a puncture and the tyre has a large hole or a cut, the puncture repair kit will not work – meaning your car needs breakdown recovery to the nearest garage. Try explaining lack of a spare wheel to your spouse or children when stranded with a puncture.
Autonomous Emergency Braking System (AEB)
A 2015 study based on European and Australasian data suggests the AEB can decrease rear-end collisions by 38%. AEB systems detect possible collisions and autonomously apply brakes. AEB starts by warning the driver that a collision is likely and that they need to brake, using dashboard warning lights and audible alarm. If the driver fails to take action, AEB applies the brakes automatically.
Advanced Park Assist
Wouldn’t it be nice if you didn’t have to guess if your car can fit into a tight parking spot, and then have to park it? Well, advanced park assist systems can do both. All you need to do is to press a button, take your hands of the steering wheel, and put the transmission into reverse.
Xenon or LED headlights
If you regularly drive through the countryside at night, this is one of the top options you need. Factory-upgrade headlights allow you to see further ahead, greatly increasing safety and reducing fatigue.
There are two types available: xenon high-intensity discharge (HID) and LED. Led is the newest technology available. Different manufacturers offer different features like lights which ‘bend’ around corners when you turn the steering wheel, or lights which can detect oncoming vehicles and automatically dip the main beam, or lights that automatically and constantly adapt the range and distribution of light without dazzling other road users.
Try avoiding standard halogen headlights. LED and Xenon are far superior and effective.
Yes, automatic transmissions do cost more, but they offer tremendous convenience. You can stick the car in D and forget about touching the gear lever until you want to park. And there is no clutch to bother with.
You don’t have to juggle kids, shopping bags and car keys at the same time. Just keep the keys in your pocket/purse, quickly get in and drive.
Once you try it on a wet windy day when you need to get inside your car quickly, you will never want to go back to manual tailgates.
Heated steering wheel and seats
Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it. Heated steering wheel warms up much faster than heated seats, and makes winter driving much more pleasant. And a minute later the heated seats get warm, much sooner than the car’s heater.
Automatic Climate Control
No more fiddling with heater and/or air-conditioner controls. Just set the desired temperature, and forget it.
More expensive, but much easier to clean and to keep clean than cloth trim.
